Reading Blog #3

Exploring the world of internet art is super interesting, I think the reading “WEB WORK: A HISTORY OF INTERNET ART” by Rachel Greene has a very unique take on its history and come up in society. She talks about internet art emerging in the 1990’s, where artists begin to explore the possibilities of creative freedom and threshold amongst the internet. The coolest part about this new form of sharing/exploring art is how interactive it is. Artists began to learn new innovative ways to engage their viewers in a way that was not possible before. Using websites and forums, a whole new world could be accessed by almost anyone who could get a hold of the internet. The author also touched on the gateway this created for artists themselves, coming up with new ways to create art digitally. It was easier to connect with those of similar cultures, identities, and interests. It was new to me to read about the challenges with preservations of ephemeral digital pieces, within a constantly changing online environment. But as this new platform for art has been shed into light, it will continue to evolve and present new opportunities and skills for so many artists. The tool of the internet is so powerful, and I, myself, am very grateful for its growth because it has and will come in handy in the future for my career. I think this reading really helped me touch into the history and depth of internet art and the possibilities it has brought to all artists. Even my grandmother, a professional painter, has benefitted from the world of internet art to keep her work in tact with the current world.
